Note from Dave W.: This article presents the personal experiences and opinions of the author (Coolkraker), a psoriasis sufferer, in his/her own words. My only input has been primarily typographical. Also note that I requested this article. See the email page for more information on unsolicited work.

I am a middle-aged caucasian lady. Two years ago, I noticed itching and scaling of my skin on both my elbows and on my left knee. I didn’t have any itching or scaling on my right knee. The itching and redness on my elbows and knee was very severe.

The itching became intolerable. I went to the doctor. He prescribed an ointment for psoriasis called Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment USP, 0.1%. [See Steroids] The ointment controlled the problem, but if I stopped applying the ointment, the psoriasis would worsen.

My doctor said that there was no known medical cure for psoriasis. Therefore, I turned to alternative healing. I read anything I could get my hands on about alternative healing in regard to psoriasis. I learned that Extra Virgin Olive Oil seemed to be have healing qualities. At random, I purchased 8 ounces of Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil from thegrocery store.

For a test, once a day I applied the Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment to my left elbow, and I applied the Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil to my right elbow and left knee. I did this every day for one month.

Results: after one month the left elbow receiving the Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment was slightly red as usual, and the right elbow and left knee receiving the Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil showed no scaling or redness at all.

Near the end of that month, I went to the doctor and showed him my two elbows and left knee. He saw that the left elbow receiving the Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment had redness, and the right elbow and left knee receiving the Pompeian Extra Virgin Oil didn’t have any redness or scaling. The doctor said, “Modern medicine is beginning to recognize the potential value of alternative healing.”

I continue to apply the Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil every day to my elbows and my left knee, even though I don’t have any symptoms of psoriasis at all. I feel like a normal person now.

(Just for the record, I have taken Lopressor for about 20 years to regulate my heart arrhythmia. One of the side effects of Lopressor is psoriasis. I don’t know if, after all these years, the Lopressor caused the psoriasis, or if the psoriasis just decided to occur on its own.)
